Ingrid Avison Band is the full-band home of Boulder songwriter Ingrid Avison: five players, synth-pop hooks with indie-rock weight, and lyrics that get the whole room singing the uncomfortable line.
Avison is a four-time Planet Bluegrass Songwriter Showcase honoree, a Telluride Troubadour finalist and a Rocky Mountain Song Contest finalist who has played the main stage at Rocky Mountain Folks Fest. Her catalog has moved from Americana through soul-pop to the synth pop of her latest singles. Early work drew comparisons to Jewel and Florence Welch; the new material sits closer to Chappell Roan. Her most-requested live song, "The IUD Song," started as a late-night joke and became the set closer.
A self-described late bloomer, she released her debut, "Time Traveling Cowboy," at 34, after a pandemic, a breakup, surgery and a psychedelic desert experience. The band grew out of her duo with keyboardist and co-producer Jeff Dean, and now fills out the songs the way they sound in her head.
With two-plus hours of original material, the band plays anything from a 30-minute support set to a full headline night. Recent shows include Denver Porchfest, three nights at Roots Music Project in Boulder — among them a self-produced Empower Women showcase that drew 95 — Boulder Creek Festival, the Greeley Arts Picnic, Longmont Winter Walkabout and Oskar Blues' Sunday Serenade listening room in Lyons.
